Police target drug dealers in York park

Police are taking action over drug dealing in a York park.

The force has stepped up its presence in Hull Road Park.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “York Neighbourhood Policing Teams have been attending Hull Road Park in response to concerns raised around drug dealing in the area.

“The aim of these patrols is to disrupt and stop drug dealing within our local communities to make these areas safer for everyone.

“If you have any issues or information this can be reported anonymously on 101 or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.”

There have been a series of incidents at the park in the last couple of years.

Only last Tuesday, a group of teenagers threw fireworks at other teenagers.

In April, vandals destroyed 300 newly-planted trees close to the Tang Hall Lane entrance.

Hull Road ward councillor Cllr John Moroney told YorkMix that the problems were caused by a small minority who shouldn’t be allowed to spoil it for everyone else.

Meanwhile a Friends of Hull Road Park group has been working to improve it, and the park will receive a share of £750K from City of York Council to improve its facilities.
