Police cordon off part of York farmer’s field after ‘violent attack’

Police are investigating an incident in a York farmer’s field today (Sunday, 18 July).

Forensic investigators taped off a tractor in the field behind Walmer Carr in Wigginton.

Locals have told YorkMix that a farmer was attacked in the field. We haven’t yet confirmed this.

A police guard and two vans are parked outside number 9 Walmer Carr, a modern detached house which backs onto the field.

Two mobile police office vans are parked on Westfield Lane, which also borders the field.

We understand the farmer was baling his crop when the incident happened.

Crime scene photographers have been taking pictures of the tractor this morning. Uniformed officers have been conducting inquiries at neighbouring houses.

One neighbour said they first noticed something was wrong at 6.45am this morning when the buses weren’t running. Then he saw a number of police vans, and an officer with a dog searching the area.

He was told that an argument between the farmer and another person ended in violence.

Another resident said there was a heavy police presence in the area, with four vans, plus an ambulance at around 8.30am.
