North Yorkshire Police have referred themselves to the police watchdog over the alleged attempted murder in York.
It’s because officers had previous contact with the woman who was seriously injured in the incident.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) will now look into those circumstances.
It follows the incident on Saturday when a woman in her 20s was allegedly stabbed in Lindley Road, Rawcliffe.
She is in hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Yesterday Jake Joe Bamber, 35, of Apollo Street, off Heslington Road, appeared at York Magistrates’ Court charged with attempted murder and carrying a knife.
North Yorkshire Police said today: “In line with standard practice for all forces when there has been prior police contact with individuals connected to such investigations, North Yorkshire Police has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) to examine the full circumstances leading up to the incident.
“The victim and her family have been informed about the IOPC referral and are being supported by specialist officers.”
Bamber was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Leeds Crown Court next month.
