Police prevent horse cart racing on main North Yorkshire road

Police have stopped a horse cart racing event taking place on a main North Yorkshire road this weekend.

They say it was due to happen yesterday (Saturday) on the A168 between Dishforth and Boroughbridge.

PSCO Hannah Gill said: “If you were driving in the area, you may have seen a large police presence and been disturbed by the road closure which was put in place to prevent the racing from happening.

“We were successful in stopping this, and attended an attempt which took place further down the A168 towards Wetherby and dispersed those who were involved.

“Going forward, if you see anything of this nature or hear of any possible racing taking place, do not hesitate and report it to us. You can do so online, or by calling 101 if you are told of any future plans.

“Or, please call 999 immediately if you witness it.”
