A new supermarket for York is a step closer to opening.
The Co-op has put in plans for its new store that it plans to open on Campleshon Road, South Bank.
We reported in April that the chain was hoping to open a branch at The Chocolate Works, with a £700,000 investment.
Now the look of the new store has been revealed as part of a planning application lodged with City of York Council.
It includes a fascia sign saying, ‘Welcome to Campleshon Road’s Co-op’, totem signs with opening hours, and signs directing people to and from the car parking spaces.
The Co-op says it expects “the store to launch this August”.
The new, near 2,500 sq ft shop “will run on 100% renewable electricity” and will include a Fairtrade Coffee machine and bakery products alongside food, drink, alcohol, everyday essentials, and Co-op’s vegan range, GRO.
Amazon Lockers will also be added for easy and convenient parcel collections.
According to a separate licensing application, the shop will be open from 6am to 11pm daily.
A spokesperson for Co-op confirmed: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to serve the community.
“Our aim is to operate at the heart of local life and we are working to develop the range, choice, products and added services to create a really compelling offer to serve the community, conveniently.”
Students who are TOTUM cardholders – the new name for NUS extra – also receive a 10% discount at the Co-op.
