Pictures: York police cordon remains in place after violent riverside incident

A police cordon remains in place by the River Ouse in York today (Sunday).

The riverside path is closed close to Millennium Bridge and next to Rowntree Park.

Police tape is preventing anyone from passing through, and an officer is guarding the end furthest from the bridge.

As we reported last night, a police investigation has been launched after a violent incident.

Witnesses reported meeting a teenager with blood on his hands who said his friend had been stabbed.

A grey Vauxhall hatchback is parked on the path within the police tape.

Rowntree Park remains open.

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance went to the scene, landing in a field next to the Millennium Bridge.

Emergency services were alerted shortly after 7pm. Police with sniffer dogs went to the scene.

A Yorkshire Ambulance Service told the York Press: “There has been a serious incident which has left a patient seriously injured.

“The police are involved and are now leading on this investigation.”
