Pictured: Lorry bursts into flames on main North Yorkshire road

This is the moment a lorry burst into flames on the A19 in North Yorkshire.

It happened at about 3.15pm yesterday (Tuesday) near South Ellerbeck north of Thirsk.

Fire crews from Thirsk, Ripon and Northallerton went to the incident.

A wagon carrying fertiliser caught fire.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “The cab of the vehicle was well alight, two hose reel jets and two breathing apparatus was used to extinguish the fire. The trailer of the wagon was unaffected.”

Police closed the road in both directions while the fire was dealt with.
