Spend an evening with the Oscar nominated and prize winning author of Hamnet, in this special event coming to York.
For one night only, York Theatre Royal hosts An Evening with Maggie O’ Farrell, presented by Waterstones, to celebrate the release of Maggie’s new novel Land.
An Evening with Maggie O’ Farrell will take place at York Theatre Royal on Wednesday 10 June 2026.
The new novel is about separation and reunion, tragedy and recovery, colonisation and rebellion. It is a story of buried treasure, overlapping lives, ancient woodland, persistent ghosts, a particularly loyal dog, and how, when it comes to both land and history, nothing ever goes away.
YTR Members Priority Booking is now open for the event, with general sale on Monday 26 January at 1pm.

Maggie O’Farrell is the author of nine previous novels, including Hamnet which won Waterstones Book of the Year in 2020 and the Women’s Prize for Fiction in the same year.
Hamnet has been made into a film starring Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal. Maggie co-wrote the screenplay with Academy-Award-winning director Chloé Zhao. It was announced this week that Hamnet received eight Oscar nominations, including Best Adapted Screenplay.
The film has already won Best Motion Picture – Drama at the Golden Globes and the audience award at multiple film festivals, including Telluride, Toronto and London.
Maggie’s bestselling titles include the novels After You’d Gone, The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox, The Hand that First Held Mine and her memoir I Am, I Am, I Am.
