New scheme encourages York rail passengers to travel home on e-scooters

York rail passengers are being encouraged to use e-scooters to travel home from the station, under a scheme launching today (Tuesday).

Tier, which runs the city’s e-scooter and e-bike rental scheme, has partnered with Zipabout to offer its ‘last mile’ journey option to York rail users.

Anyone opted in to receive journey information from Zipabout’s rail clients, including National Rail Enquiries and LNER, will be directed to the e-scooters and e-bikes for the final leg of their journey.

As an added incentive to select this mode of last mile transport, passengers arriving at York station will also receive a voucher offering them 25% off their first five Tier e-scooter and e-bike journeys.

The integration supports Tier’s ambition to cut carbon emissions in cities by encouraging sustainable transport choices and reducing reliance on cars.

Georgia Yexley, Tier’s UK general manager, said: “We want to give as many people as possible the choice of environmentally friendly transport when moving around London and York;  this partnership will do just that in offering sustainable last mile travel.”

E-scooters and e-bikes hired from York Station will have to be parked in a designated e-scooter bay at the end of the journey.

This will make it most convenient for people who live close to a scooter bay. You can see how close your nearest one is on the map on the Tier app.
