Police are appealing for witnesses after a “unprovoked” attack on a dog in Borougbridge.
It happened at around 10.30am on Saturday (27 December) on the canal tow path by the lock near Milby Island.
The dog was kicked in the head and knocked unconscious.
He also suffered a cut above an eye which required treatment by a vet.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “The owner said the attack was ‘unprovoked’ and that the suspect walked away following the incident having acted aggressively towards the owner.
“We are appealing for any witnesses to the incident or information which may help identify the suspect.”
He is described as
- white
- aged in his 40s
- around 6ft 1in tall
- of athletic build
- and wearing long boots.
The suspect was also walking a “large black fluffy dog”.
