Lifebuoy set on fire near York river

Police are investigating after a lifebuoy was set on fire in York.

It happened near Lincoln Street at 9.25pm last night (Tuesday).

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “A crew from Acomb responded to reports of a fire in the open.

“This was a fire measuring 2m by 1m, with a lifebuoy being burnt. Crews using knapsack sprayers to extinguish the fire.

“The cause of the fire is believed deliberate and police were informed.”

It wasn’t the only deliberate fire in York last night.

At 9.03pm, Acomb firefighters responded to a fire started on shrubland off Pyramid Court near Boroughbridge Road.

Crews used knapsack sprayers to put it out. Police have been informed.
