A York café found inside one of the city’s most popular stores has closed.
The Alpine Café in Go Outdoors at Vangarde shut earlier this month.
Most of the furniture has now gone, and there’s a sign saying: ‘Our café and restaurant is closed. Apologies for any inconvenience.”
There were two versions, one upstairs and one downstairs.
The café opened with the store in August last year. The website said it offered “some of the finest snacks, meals, and hot drinks in the area”.
It served up a range of meals and snacks, from sandwiches and backed potatoes to full English breakfasts, burgers, fish and chips and a range of puddings.

The Alpine Café had many good reviews on TripAdvisor. One visitor at the end of last month praised the “smart and comfortable” surroundings, adding: “The service was also very good and it’s a pity that this cafe closing down.”
Another November diner said: “Simply not enough people eating here , it’s a real shame as this place could have had a bright future.”
We’ve asked Go Outdoors whether it plans to open a new café and will update this story when we hear back.
