Investigation launched after ‘obscene and offensive’ language at York City match

Police have launched an investigation after reports of “obscene and offensive language” at a York City game.

It is said to have happened during City’s home match on Saturday, 7 February, during the match against Forest Green Rovers.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “It is alleged that the chanting took place within the home supporters’ section. A full investigation is now underway

“We take all reports of anti social behaviour extremely seriously. Abuse of any kind has no place in football, and we are committed to dealing with such incidents robustly.”

They are appealing for witnesses and anyone with relevant footage to get in contact with them.

The game ended in a 2-1 victory to City. Afterwards Forest Green Rovers manager Robbie Savage said City had taken their chances to win but bemoaned the referee’s decision not to award Rovers a penalty for handball.
