Fire crews from Richmond and Reeth responded to a report of a chimney that had been struck by lightning.
It happened just after 4pm at Marrick, near Richmond.
This caused the chimney to fill with smoke and filled the residential property with smoke as a result.
Crews used two breathing apparatus and 1 hose reel jet, premises taped off for safety precautions.
