High Street name planning to move into empty shop on Coney Street in York

Plans are in for a new occupier to take over an empty unit on Coney Street in York.

Numbers 3-7 Coney Street, previously home to JD Sports, will get a new shopfront under the proposals.

Beauty brand Space NK wants to move in.

It would mean a return to the city for the brand which used to have a shop on Davygate.

That closed down in 2022, along with Accessorize. Those shops were later taken over by Beaverbrooks jewellers.

JD Sports moved from Coney Street to Davygate a year ago.

Under the plans there would be a new shop front, and new floor, wall and ceiling finishes at ground and first floor levels.

The document says: “The fit out is similar to other, recent fit outs in reference to materials, fixing methods, etc. There will be no impact on neighbouring properties and no detraction from the street scene.”

Numbers 3-5 Coney Street are due to be redeveloped as part of the Coney Street Riverside project.

These plans include a partial demolition to allow a walkway through to the river.
