Two girls were rescued after becoming stuck on a river island in York last night.
Police called in the fire service after being contacted about the incident at 6.33pm.
A group of teenagers had gone onto the island surrounded by the River Foss behind Yearsley Swimming Pool off Haley’s Terrace.

While some of the teenagers were able to jump across, two teenage girls couldn’t get back.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “A crew from York responded to a report of a number of youths that had become trapped on an island within a river having jumped over and were unable to get back.
“Crews rescued two females from the island using a triple extension ladder.”
