Free model railway display staged in York this bank holiday

A group of York-based model railway and modelling businesses are teaming up for a special open day this bank holiday.

On Monday 4 May visitors to Model Railway Magic Ltd HQ in Stockton on the Forest will get the chance to see layouts, displays, model-making products and specialist stock in person.

The company will be open from 11am to 5pm for visitors to meet the team, see working model railway displays, browse stock and learn more about the hobby.

York business and event host Model Railway Magic Ltd are behind Train Trax UK and The Model Tree Shop.

The day will also feature contributions from other local and specialist modelling organisations, including JS Models, York Modelmaking, and the Yorkshire Area Group of the N Gauge Society.

Ian Miller, owner of Model Railway Magic Ltd, said: “We started with the idea of opening our own doors for the day, but it has grown into something much more collaborative.

“There are some fantastic modelling businesses and groups very close to us, so it made sense to make the day bigger than just Train Trax and The Model Tree Shop.

“It’s a chance for people to come and see what we do, meet other local modelling specialists, see layouts running and maybe discover a few things they didn’t know were happening around York.

“We’re usually an online business, so this is also a rare chance to see behind the scenes, browse stock in person and, yes, have some cake.”

Attendance is free, but visitors are encouraged to book a free ticket in advance via Eventbrite to help organisers plan for numbers, parking and refreshments.
