Streets were inundated, some properties were flooded and cars were damaged when a water main burst, flooding streets in the Salisbury Terrace area of York last night.
Now Yorkshire Water has issued an update.
The 21-inch pipe ruptured, bursting through the road at the junction of Balfour Street and Salisbury Terrace. Those streets and others near Water End and Leeman Road were flooded.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service crews pumped water from the basement of the old Jubilee pub on Balfour Street and from one home.
This afternoon (Monday), Yorkshire Water issued this update: “Due to the size of the main there has been some water ingress at properties, including the former pub and some residential properties, and damage to some vehicles in the area.
“Our teams were on site last night (19 July) speaking directly with customers affected and they have returned today to continue speaking with anyone affected and will work with them to understand any damage caused and how we can assist them in the short and longer-term.
“A case manager has been assigned to this as a single point of contact for affected customers to assist them with any claims or ongoing issues.
“Repairs to the main are underway and to allow this to be done safely, a road closure and signed diversion is in place.
“Unfortunately, the burst caused significant damage to the road surface, which will take longer than usual to repair and reinstate.
“Our teams will be working as quickly as possible to carry out the reinstatement and will open the road as soon as it is safe to do so.
“We apologise for any inconvenience and thank customers for their patience while we complete the necessary repairs.”
