Flags lowered at police stations as colleagues remember Rosie

Fellow officers of York constable Rosie Prior have been remembering her at ceremonies across North Yorkshire.

PC Prior, stationed at York, was one of two people who died after being struck by a lorry on the A19 at Bagby, near Thirsk, on Saturday morning.

At 10am this morning her colleagues in North Yorkshire Police joined together outside police stations across the county to pay their respects to her.

At the force headquarters in Northallerton, Chief Constable Tim Forber gave an address.

This was followed by a minute’s silence before a reading from force chaplain, the Rev Philip Rogerson.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “As a mark of the respect flags have been lowered across the force.

“Our thoughts at this time remain firmly with Rosie’s family.”

Although off-duty, PC Prior had pulled over to help those involved in a collision between a black Ford Focus and a silver Audi car, when she was struck by the HGV

The driver of the Audi, Ryan Welford, 41, from Knaresborough, was also hit and died at the scene.

A teenage boy from the Audi is in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

The driver of the HGV, a 65-year-old man from Berwick-upon-Tweed, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He has been released while investigations continue.
