Firefighters save life of dog who set house on fire by switching on hob

Firefighters have been tackling a fire – caused by a dog.

Both Selby fire crews were called out to a home in North Duffield at 10.27am this morning (Friday) after smoke was spotted coming from an upstairs window.

The fire was caused when clothing left on the cooker caught alight – with the “cause believed to be due to dog jumping up and switching hob on,” a North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said.

After starting the blaze, the dog – Molly, a Staffordshire terrier, suffered from breathing in smoke. She was found unconscious and carried out of the house by a firefighter.

Crews then administered CPR and oxygen and successfully revived her.

They also successfully extinguished the kitchen fire.
