Firefighters called to bonfire in York car park and arson in city park

It was another busy shift for firefighters last night (Monday) who attended a number of incidents in York.

They were called to an extractor fan fire in a home on Emerald Street at 5.14pm. The residents had managed to put it out before York and Acomb crews arrived.

At the same time, a Selby crew went to a fuel spill at a petrol station on Tadcaster Road. Five litres of petrol was spilled, and the Selby crew used sand to make it safe and advised on the clean up.

At 7.12pm firefighters attended a report of a bonfire in a car park in York city centre. A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Further investigation found this to be a controlled burn under supervision. The crew gave advice to a responsible person on scene.”

A crew from Huntington went to a fire started deliberately in Leeman Park at 8.27pm.

The fire service spokesperson said: “They used a triple extension ladder and a hose reel jet to access the fire and fully extinguish it. Details passed to the police.”

Leeman Park

It’s the second deliberate fire there in the last two weeks.

And at 10.04pm a York crew rescued a three-year-old child who had got locked in their bedroom due to a faulty lock at an address on Thornton Road.

Crews used small tools to open the door and gave advice to the parents.
