Emergency services were called to the Talbot hotel in Malton this afternoon.
Customers and staff were told to leave the building.
A crew from Malton and the aerial ladder platform from Scarborough were at the scene.
The fire was confined to the chimney flue and a chimney nozzle adapter was used to extinguish the fire.
