They were investigating an overturned boat seen next to King’s Staith.

The boat, which appears to be a single-scull rowing boat, was upside down in the River Ouse.

Paramedics told YorkMix there is no sign of anyone nearby in the water.

CCTV footage shows the boat drifted to to that location at about 7.49am.

The York Rescue Boat was launched to investigate. The boat has now been retrieved.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Fire resources and the York Rescue Boat responded to a report of an overturned two seater rowing boat in the vicinity of Ouse Bridge, floating down river.

“Fire crews attended scene to find no persons present, then attended York boat house where they found the owner. Recovery of boat arranged.”
