Emergency services called after screams for help heard from York river

Emergency services were called to an incident in the River Foss in York last night (Wednesday).

Three fire crews, from Acomb, Huntington, Selby and Ripon, were among those called at 9.26pm, after a resident heard screams for help from the river.

When they arrived one person had managed to get themselves out of the water.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews then conducted a further search of the river with their thermal imaging cameras, 100m upstream and downstream to ensure there were no further casualties.

“They provided a space blanket until arrival of paramedics and the person was left in their hands for possible medical treatment.”
