The RSPCA says it has found four dead pet rabbits dumped in Carr Lane, in Drax near Selby.
They have issued an appeal for information after two of the bunnies were found dead inside a black bin bag with others on the road.
They were discovered in the early hours of Tuesday 26 May.
RSPCA animal rescue officer Caitlin Houston said: “The rabbits appeared to be pet rabbits and were found in good condition, with no obvious injuries or visible cause of death.
“Due to the circumstances in which they were discovered, we are keen to establish how they came to be at this location.
“At this stage, we do not know how the rabbits died or who they may have belonged to – it appears they hadn’t been dead for long. No microchips were detected when the rabbits were scanned.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact the RSPCA appeals line number on 0300 123 8018 and refer to incident number 01811580.
