Police and partners in Scarborough have secured a partial closure order on a flat in Alma Square.
The action follows multiple reports of crime and anti-social behaviour at the property that was causing misery for local residents.
Neighbourhood Policing Officers and partner agencies, including Beyond Housing, presented evidence to the courts resulting in the granting of the closure order by Scarborough Magistrates on 19 June.
The order will last for three months and prevents anyone from entering the property other than professionals, the landlord and a named person.
If the order is breached suspects could face arrest and up to 51 weeks in jail, or a fine or both.
Sergeant Jonathan Dillon of Scarborough Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Thanks to joint working with our partner agencies we have secured the partial closure order that aims to protect the rest of the residents in the block of flats whose lives were blighted by the anti-social and criminal behaviour of those visiting the flat in question. A closure order is one way we can protect residents and restore peace to local people while other, more lengthy investigations are ongoing.”
