The northbound carriageway of the A1M was closed at Junction 45 for Wetherby following a serious collision.
It’s reported that three people were taken to hospital after a two vehicle collision.
Those seeking an alternative route found the A64 and the outer ring road around York very congested too.
There was a 90 minute delay on approach with 10 miles of congestion heading north. Although open, southbound was very slow through the area too.
At around 1:25pm National Highways Yorkshire said: “The #A1M was open again northbound“
It will take time to clear the queues though.
