Disco ball prompts 999 call in York

It is one of the more unusual false alarms the fire brigade have encountered.

Early this morning a resident spotted strange lights on their street, Whitestone Drive in Huntington.

At 3.57am, firefighters went to investigate.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Following inspection this was found to be a disco ball in a neighbour’s property.”

It wasn’t the only false alarm on the night shift. Earlier, at 5.36pm, crews from York, Acomb and an aerial ladder went to a report of smoke coming from a block of flats on Eboracum Way

This turned out to be someone having a barbecue on their balcony. “Advice was given to the occupants,” said the spokesperson.
