Crews called out to tackle fires in two homes in York city centre

Fire crews have responded to fires in two York city centre properties today (Saturday, 25 June).

The first was at 7.47am when smoke and sparks were coming from a cupboard in a home on Stonebow.

Firefighters found that there was a small fire to the central heating pump which was out on their arrival. “Advice was given to a responsible person on site,” the fire service said.

Then at 1.32pm, crews from York, Acomb, Huntington and Tadcaster responded to a report of an alarm sounding and a strong smell of smoke coming from a flat on Skeldergate.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “On arrival crews gained entry to the flat and located a small fire caused by a wok that had been left on the hob unattended.

“Crews removed the wok from the hob and ventilated the flat. Advice was given to a responsible person.”
