Changes planned at entrance to York factory

Plans are afoot to improve access for pedestrians and cyclists at a major York factory.

Nestlé UK Ltd’s application would see a new gate for pedestrians and cyclists for them to access the company’s York factory in Wigginton Road.

A new cycle shelter is set to be installed to double the number of spaces and an existing pedestrian walkway would also be moved.

The company’s plans stated the works would help promote sustainable and active travel to and from the site.

Plans from the food and drinks firm would see alterations made to the Haxby Road site’s car park for the installation of new cycle shelters.

They would see the number of available spaces for cycles double from 20 to 40.

A total of 17 new spaces for motorcycles would also be created, along with eight new parking spaces.

A Newgate Turnstile and gate would be installed to allow access to the car park from Wigginton Road.

Plans stated the works would see the layout of the car park reconfigured to prioritise cycling.

They added a cycling route within the car park would connect to the one on Wigginton Road and the new gate would improve safety for walkers and cyclists.

The application stated: “This proposal aims to promote more active travel to the site through enhancing the access for both pedestrian and cyclists and providing improved designated cycle parking and access paths.”
