Massive boost to the visitor economy as BBC TV comes to Cathedral city for Easter

A packed cathedral congregation and hundreds of thousands of viewers in their homes were able to rejoice as Ripon featured on TV on Easter Sunday.

Ripon BID manager, Lilla Bathurst, was among worshippers attending the televised Festal Eucharist Service and said the coverage of the city was a massive boost to the visitor economy.

She said: “For those viewers who previously had never heard of Ripon, the Cathedral City of the Dales was presented in the best possible light, starting with Dean John Dobson’s introductory welcome message from the seventh‑century Anglo‑Saxon crypt and concluding with the final prayer and blessing.

“Throughout the service the Cathedral’s superb choristers, conducted by Director of Music Dr Ronny Krippner, showed why they are among the best in the land.”

“The homily given by the Bishop of Ripon, Anna Eltringham, focused on pilgrimage and new trails in the Ripon area, and I’m sure that many who saw our magnificent cathedral in all its decorated floral splendour through Sunday morning’s live BBC One broadcast or watched it on the BBC iPlayer, will be putting Ripon on their list of places to visit.

“There is no doubting that being featured on the BBC on Easter morning has given Ripon a massive and priceless boost
