Firefighters were called out after a car caught fire on the A64 last night (Monday).
A crew from Malton went to the scene near Huttons Ambo at 11pm.
The fire to a VW Golf had started in the engine compartment and spread.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said it caused about 85% fire damage to the vehicle.
“The cause is thought to have been due to a mechanical fault and the crew used 2 hoses and 2 breathing apparatus to tackle the fire.”
