Updated: Woman in her 90s seriously hurt as car crashes into York doctors’ surgery

A doctors’ surgery had to be evacuated after a car crashed into it this morning (Monday).

It happened at about 10.50am at the Unity Health Kimberlow Hill Surgery on Kimberlow Rise in York.

A grey Honda Jazz car hit a wall on the side of the building.

The wall has been breached and the scene is now cordoned off with fire tape.

Police, fire and ambulance crews were on the scene within minutes.

Two people in the car were attended to by medics at the surgery before being taken to hospital. The vehicle’s airbags deployed.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Police were called at around 10.50am on the morning of 2 February to reports that a car had collided with a building on Kimberlow Rise in York.

“The passenger in the car, a woman in her 90s, was taken to hospital with suspected serious leg injuries. The driver, a man in his 80s, was uninjured.

“The building was evacuated and a referral made to the council for a structural assessment. No one inside the building was injured.”

Managing partner at the surgery Lou Johnston told YorkMix: “We would like to reassure patients that following a serious incident earlier today, when a vehicle collided with part of the surgery building, the situation has been made safe.

“Emergency services attended promptly and we are grateful for their swift response. Our thoughts are with those affected by the incident, and we wish them a full and speedy recovery.

“The surgery remains open and services are continuing as normal. Any patients whose appointments are affected will be contacted directly.

“Thank you for your understanding and support.”

The part of the building which took the impact is not being used until it’s been repaired, but the rest of the surgery is fully operational.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “On arrival, crew confirmed no persons trapped, occupants out of vehicle to safety.

“General scene safety carried out by crew and incident left with police.”
