A campaign is underway to ensure York care leavers have the best possible Christmas.
It has been launched by Phil Pinder, chair of the York High Street Forum.
He’s collecting presents for young care leavers aged 18-25.
Phil said: “These are young people who are leaving the care system into their own accommodation, and without a traditional family support network they often spend Christmas alone without gifts.
“I want to show we are a city that cares!”
There are 120 young care leavers that need to be catered to. Any gifts for this age group are welcome – they can be dropped off at the Hole In Wand in the Coppergate Centre, or you can email Phil at [email protected].
Phil is also encouraging York organisations to sign up to the Care Leaver Covenant, where organisations promise to provide support for care-experienced young people.
From a business perspective this could include offering work experience or a guaranteed job interview.
You can find out more about that here.
