Café and shop at York Station to close this week

A unique branch of a York firm is to close this week.

The Potions Express at York Station will shut on Sunday (22 March).

It’s found under the bridge between platforms 5 and 9. The bridge is to undergo bridge repair works as part of the wider station transformation, forcing the outlet’s closure.

The Potions Express serves hot drinks and snacks, as well as a range of gifts. These include its own famous potion drinks.

The outlet boasted a real Yorkshire feel, selling many of the city’s top brands including bottles of York Gin, Rudgate Brewery beer and county power brands like Nestle and Seabrooks.

Top selling items also included York brands, including hot drinks from Tockwith’s Dancing Goat coffee and meat from Ye Olde Sausage Shop on Shambles – who supplied thousands of rashes of bacon for commuters.

It also sold a range of gifts to travellers.

The Potions Express is one of a number of outlets by the award-winning Potions Cauldron Group, which also includes the Hole In Wand indoor golf attractions.

In anticipation of the closure, the group opened at York Designer Outlet last November. This shop, next to the south entrance, sells products from York Gin, Rudgate Brewery and Dancing Goat alongside its own potion drinks and magical merchandise.

Natalie Turner, the group’s head of operations for York, said: “We have loved being part of the York Station offering working with LNER and local partners providing a magical retail experience.

“This will continue however at York Designer Outlet with tasting sessions planned through June and July with partners. We do hope to return to the station post works completion.”

The three members of staff from the station will be relocated into The Potions Cauldron on Shambles

For the closing weekend this Saturday and Sunday, customers will receive 20% discount on all products whilst stocks last.
