The bomb disposal squad have been called in to a York business park this afternoon (Thursday).
The British Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal team are at Northminster Business Park in Upper Poppleton.
An unexploded device has been handed in to Wombwell’s Auctioneers.
Police are at the scene.
Businesses have been evacuated and a 100m cordon is in place to keep people safe.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Police received a report at 1pm on Thursday that what was believed to be an antique hand grenade, had been handed in, along with a number of other items, to an auctioneers on Northminster Business Park, York.


“As a safety precaution, a cordon has been put in place and local businesses surrounding the premises have been evacuated.
“Officers are working with the Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal team to ensure the safe disposal of the device.”
The device has now been brought to a safe conclusion and the cordon lifted.
