A man’s body has been recovered from the River Ouse in York tonight (Sunday).
Emergency services were called out by kayakers at about 5pm.
Police, fire and ambulance crews went to the scene, and the body of a man in his 50s was later recovered from the river, close to Clifton Bridge at Water End.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “While formal identification is yet to take place, we believe we know the identity of the deceased but are awaiting confirmation.
“His next of next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this very sad time.”
