Barn containing oil and gas burns down in North Yorkshire village

A large barn filled with cooking oil and a gas canister burned down last night.

Fire crews from Harrogate and Knaresborough were called to the incident at Spofforth at 8.25pm.

They found the timber barn well alight.

It contained 2,000 litres of vegetable oil and a 47kg cylinder of propane.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Due to difficulty accessing, crews stood by at a safe distance and allowed fire to burn itself out under supervision.”
