Bar and restaurant set to replace takeaway in York

Plans are in to turn a former takeaway into a restaurant and bar in York.

The new venue would open in the premises on Bishopthorpe Road occupied for years by the Rainbow House Chinese takeaway.

A planning application by Rebecca Lau is asking for permission to turn the ground floor into an “eat-in restaurant/bar”.

A self-contained one-bedroom flat would also be turned into a two-bed short term holiday let to the first floor and attic.

The application describes the takeaway as “fire damaged”. The only reported incident of fire at Rainbow House was back in 2019.
