A brand new book festival in York had a “fabulous first event.”
The very first Jupiter Cloud Book Festival took place at York’s St Saviourgate
Venue on Saturday 28 February, bringing together 30 local authors and bookish small businesses to create a day of literary fun.
The festival was “well-attended”, with visitors queuing up outside to get their hands on one of the 25 jam-packed goody bags.

As well as a wide range of different authors, publishers and bookish businesses selling and signing, there were three successful workshops and over a dozen talks, readings and poetry performances.
The festival also featured an interactive competition offering visitors the chance to win one of three hampers – the largest being stuffed full of books and other items worth hundreds of pounds.
The Jupiter Cloud Book Festival was organised by Romy Morgan, who is the author of the LGBT magical romance series ‘Fallen Feathers’ set in York, that follows demon Nessa and angel Ophelia in a sweeping queer love story. Romy is also the founder of Jupiter Cloud Books – a small independent publishing company that specialises in LGBT fiction.
The idea for the Jupiter Cloud Book Festival came after attending many events, markets and conventions as an author in 2025 and finding that there are very few book-centred events of this kind in the North of England.

Planning is already underway for future events following the success of the inaugural festival, and Romy hopes that the event will grow and become a regular fixture within York’s event calendar.
Feedback from the participating authors and attending visitors for the festival has been very positive, with one author commenting that “A book festival (like this) was missing in York, I’m glad it happened.”; and another saying that “All participants were so friendly and encouraging with such a wide variety of books and bookish gifts.”
