300-year-old statue stolen from North Yorkshire town

Thieves have taken a 300-year-old statue created by an acclaimed sculptor.

The ‘Shepherd Boy’ statue dates back to the late 17th century.

It was stolen from an outbuilding in Pickering some time between last December and 4 March, when the theft was reported to police.

‘Shepherd Boy’ was the work of John Nost, a Flemish sculptor who worked in England in the late 17th and early 18th centuries.
