Firefighters were called to tackle four fires started by youths within an hour last night (Sunday).
The first one was at 6.59pm in Tang Hall Lane.
The fire in the open measure 1m by 1m. A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews used a knapsack sprayer and a fire bucket to extinguish.
“The cause is believed deliberately set by youths, police were informed.”
Then, at 7.23pm, a York crew were called “to reports of a fire in the open opposite properties” at an undisclosed location in the city.
A local person put it out. Again, the fire is believed to have been started by youths.
Then, at 7.41pm, firefighters went to a fire in Hull Road Park off Alcuin Avenue.
The spokesperson said: “On arrival crews found a fire withing a compost storage area measuring approximately 8 by 2 metres.
“Crews used one extended hose reel jet and wildfire rakes to extinguish. The cause believed deliberate by youths and police were informed.”
Finally, a fire was started on Clifton Backies at 8pm.
“A crew from York responded to a report of a fire to some pallets in a woodland. Crews used two knapsack sprayers and a fire bucket to extinguish the fire.
“The cause is believed deliberate and the police were informed.”
