Youths have been blamed for a fire in Shambles Market early this morning (Thursday).
A fire crew from York was called to the market off Jubbergate at 12.41am.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “A crew from York responded to reports of a fire in a market stall area.
“This was a small fire to a shop awning. The cause was deliberate by youths.
“Crews used a bucket of water to extinguish the fire.”
