YorkMix Family Raceday to return – with a guest star that children will love!

A fabulous day out for all ages, the YorkMix Family Raceday will return, it was announced today (Thursday).

Put the date in your diary: Sunday, 6 September 2026.

And after Chase from Paw Patrol was a huge hit at last year’s event, we have another furry friend as the VIP guest at this year’s event.

Here’s a few clues. He has terrible tusks, and terrible claws, and terrible teeth in his terrible jaws…

But he’s a big softie really. Yes it’s none other than the star of millions of books and a TV series or two, the Gruffalo!

The booking was revealed on the YorkMix breakfast show with Laura and Leigh this morning.

James Brennan of York Racecourse told them: “There are plenty of fans of the book – it’s been translated into over 100 languages, 13.5 million copies sold since it first came out at the turn of the millennium.

“Visiting us on YorkMix Family Sunday, 6 September, will be the Gruffalo!”

Being World Book Day today it was the perfect day to reveal the news.

James added: “Of course, there’ll be lots of other things going on.

“If we’re talking monsters – if that’s how we categorise the Gruffalo – I expect Mixie to be with us as well.

“There’ll be bouncy castles, the Sublime Sceince, all that sort of stuff. And of course, seven fantastic horse races.”

Early bird tickets are now available on the York Racecourse website. And remember, accompanied under-18s go free!
