A York city centre store will close this spring.
Deichmann, the European shoe brand, is shutting its branch on Davygate, and has now launched a closing down sale.
The company has confirmed it will go in March and the future of the staff is uncertain.
Deichmann, which is based in Germany but now runs shops across Europe, opened in the former Gap store on Davygate in summer 2021.
The brand sells shoes for men, women and children. It has about 4,700 stores in 36 countries, and employs just short of 50,000 people.

So why is the York store going?
A Deichmann UK spokesperson told YorkMix: “We are unfortunately in the process of closing our store in York.
“We continue trading until 28 March 2026 and are keeping an eye on suitable alternative locations in York.
“Sadly, there are colleagues who will be impacted by the closure but the business is endeavouring to avoid redundancies through redeployment where possible.”
We have asked whether the move out of Davygate is due to a lease expiring or rent increase, but have yet to hear back.
The closing down sale promises 25% off all stock.
