York shed fire sparked by discarded cigarette

Firefighters tackled a shed fire in York last night (Saturday).

York and Acomb fire crews were called to Foxwood Lane at 7.57pm.

Flames from the garden shed then spread to the fence, “causing significant damage to both”.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews extinguished the fire using two breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, one large jet and a thermal imaging camera.

“The cause of the fire is believed to be due to discarded smoking materials.”
