Updated: Woman seriously injured in collision with bus in York

There’s been a crash involving a bus and a pedestrian in York.

It happened outside York Station this morning (Thursday) at about 11am.

The road was closed for two hours while police and ambulance crews dealt with the incident.

Traffic was being diverted away from the scene via Lendal Bridge and Nunnery Lane.

The road has now been reopened.

The collision happened close to the temporary traffic lights and near a crossing point amid the Station Gateway roadworks.

Witnesses said the casualty was given first aid on the bus before the ambulance arrived.

A white York Pullman bus was parked at the scene. It has now been removed.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “The collision scene reopened to traffic at around 1pm. The woman pedestrian was taken to hospital by ambulance.

“Her injuries are believed to be serious but not life-threatening.”

A spokesperson for Yorkshire Ambulance Trust said: “We received an emergency call at 11am on Thursday morning to report a collision between a bus and pedestrian outside the main entrance to York railway station.

“Two ambulances, a specialist paramedic (critical care) and a team leader were dispatched to the incident and two patients were conveyed to York Hospital.”
