York Pride asks police to investigate after an offensive message arrives

York Pride has reported an offensive message to the police saying  anonymous communications like this only go to show why we still need pride.

The chair of York Pride, Greg Stephenson said: “You can scribble over posters. You can write hateful messages. But you cannot erase people.”

A letter was sent out for York Pride, but one copy was returned with messages written over it.

It said ‘Not all residents support this’ and ‘White Yorkshire English Normal male’

Another said ‘We used to arrest these lot’

Greg Stephenson added: “I think it’s important that any hate crime is reported to the police, more just so that the numbers are accurate.

“If the police aren’t aware of these things going on, they assume there’s no problem, and you know, clearly things like this are a problem.

“It’s being done because of the sexuality of people, and that falls into a hate crime, as far as I’m concerned.

“It’s disappointing, frustrating, but on the flip side, it motivates us to keep going and proves why York Pride’s so important still.
