York heroin dealer jailed for trade that caused ‘untold misery’ in city

A York drug dealer has today been jailed for more than four years at York Crown Court.

Mahbub Kamali Rahman, 33, of Osbaldwick, was sentenced to four years and nine months’ imprisonment for possession of heroin with intent to supply.

Rahman pleaded guilty to the charge on 16 July last year along with his co-accused, Paul Matson, 63, of Bootham Square, York.

Matson received a 23-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, on 1 August.

Rahman had been remanded in custody ahead of the sentencing.

The 63-year-old man who was also arrested remains on conditional bail while enquiries continue.

Detective Sergeant Sinéad Brocken, of North Yorkshire Police’s Organised Crime Unit, said: “Mahbub Kamali Rahman has admitted his guilt to being part of a conspiracy to supply Class A drugs in the York area which has links across Yorkshire and Humber region.

“We welcome the significant custodial sentence he has received which reflects the seriousness of his crimes, along with the individual and societal harms associated with such activity.

“North Yorkshire Police and our law enforcement and community partners will continue to bear down on the organised crime groups involved in dealing Class A and other illegal drugs.”

The convictions follow an operation by North Yorkshire Police’s Organised Crime Unit.

Detectives seized significant amounts of drugs and cash during multiple raids in York.

Detective Chief Inspector Fionna McEwan, who leads the Organised Crime Unit, said: ““This demonstrates North Yorkshire Police’s capacity and capability to clamp down on organised drug-related crime which causes untold misery in our communities.”
