York firefighters put out two fires in homes overnight

York firefighters were called to two incidents last night (Monday).

A crew from Huntington were called to a home in Barton-le-Willows at 7.58pm.

Floorboards had caught fire after a new fireplace had been installed.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “On arrival crews located a small fire that had already burnt out. Crews carried out an inspection using a thermal imaging camera.”

Later, at 9.37pm, crews from York and Acomb were called to a chimney fire at a house in New Earswick.

The spokesperson said: “The fire was confined within the chimney and extinguished using a knapsack sprayer, small tools and the aerial ladder platform for access.

“Advice was given to the occupant.”
